We recently visited Rocky Top Retreat in Sinji, Kalimpong, and it was an absolute delight. We stayed in the Dome, which was spotless and offered mesmerizing views of Kanchenjunga. The highlight of our trip was the hospitality. "Didi" is an incredible host who personally ensured every request was met with a smile. She is also a gifted chef! The homemade food was outstanding, especially the dinner starters. We requested Nepali cuisine, which she prepared perfectly without any extra charge—a truly kind gesture. It is also fantastic for families. My 2-year-old daughter couldn't get enough of the newly added kids' area just beneath the dome; she spent hours sliding and playing there. I went many offbeat hill places throughout my life, but the Rocky Top Retreat, it's surprised me. When I reached there, actually from my cottage, I felt, I was on top of all mountains. Breathtaking over the top 360 digre mountain view, mesmerising sunrise and sunset, at night, moon was very nearer to me. Walking through the property was like a happy adventure. There was a hanging seating area where you can sit all throughout the day and feel the peace of mind and presence of original beautiful nature. Owners of the property are really lovely, kind hearted, hardworking and gentle people. They always eager to help you if that needed. I personally felt like, I came to my relative house. Me & my husband checked in for 2 days on 23rd & 24th december 2024. Our visit to rocky top retreat is very recent. Unlike other usual homestays this homestay or retreat is quite costly but what I have experienced is that if you want to get a well maintained, clean, safe, hassle free, perfect view & staycation for yourself then Rocky Top Retreat is the choice. They are classy not massy. This homestay has a 180 degree mountain view & kanchenjunga view too with lush green organic farming of vegetables & flowers by the property owner. We were more than satisfied with the top notch service by the staff & hospitality of our dear Rumki Di. Just awesome..the location, the view surpass everything else.. You will literally be at the top of the world once you stay at gapsap geodesic dome..you get to see 360 view of the mountains , valleys and peaks.. on a clear day you get to see the entire kanchenjungha range..just fantabulous.. It was so appealing that we could not venture out to any other place leaving this beauty through our entire stay.. The service, the hospitality was worth mentioning..the owners themselves takes care of all the guests and maam's home cooked delicacies will not let you miss your own home food.. All in all..the views are just mind boggling..and after visiting this place we just cant wait to comeback again and again and again.. A perfect getaway for 1-2 nights - far away from city chaos and pollution! Amazing view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and a truly starry sky. Perks? Good food, good people, very cute doggo Rustik and view worth living! Located on top of a hill, we nestled in their European style cottage. The host is stern because she needs to be so as she runs it by herself, but friendly. Enjoy their hospitality and relax. It's clean, service is okay but the help is nice. Food is homemade so you can recuperate very well. PS- Given that it's very close to nature and a homestay, it's not suited for people who wanna get sloshed with friends. It's best for those who want to enjoy nature in it's natural form, whilst having lux stay. ~ Aveeshikta C

A perfectly serene staycation for the persons who want to spend some moments away from hustle and bustle of the popular travel destinations. I just want to appreciate the taste of the Homestay owner about the location. At one side snow-clad mighty Kanchanjungha and the view of green mountain series on the other! Such a vast view is generally less found. Experiencing the sunset view from the little cute umbrella point was my favourite one indeed! The overall arrangement inside the Geodesic Dome was nice giving a cozy & comfy feeling. I had an amazing hospitality & warm welcome from the owner Rumki di & her husband.The food including the tea could be a bit improved as per the price, it's my only suggestion. I'll definitely make a plan for visiting this place post-monsoon to enjoy the greenery to the fullest. You guys also give it a try 👍 ~ Ananya C

I recently stayed at Homestay (Rocky Top Retreat, Sinji) and had an amazing experience! From the moment we arrived, the owner was incredibly hospitable. The check-in process was quick, and they even offered us a complimentary welcome drink, which was really refreshing. The Geodesic Dome was spotless, comfortable, and had all the amenities we needed. The homestay's location is perfect – with the view of River, Valley, Mountains and view of the Kangchenjunga peak on a clear sky day. We had an amazing experience at Rocky Top Retreat. We stayed for one night in their Gup Shup dome-shaped room, and it was simply luxurious! The room is beautifully designed, cozy, and offers a breathtaking view of Mount Kanchenjunga—waking up to that scenery was truly unforgettable. The service was warm and professional, and the food quality was top-notch—every meal was delicious and well-prepared. The overall ambiance, comfort, and hospitality made our stay perfect. I travelled to Sinji just to stay im RTR. We stayed at the geodesic dome. The view from the dome was awesome. The rooms we clean and there was the facility of coolers and fan also available. The bathroom was also clean. The food was also of a great quality and taste kudos to the chef. The ambience was also great with a lot of flowers planted all over the property. The hosts were very kind hearted and they had a lovely dog with whom we played. Overall it was a lovely experience. This is one of the very few stays that houses two Geodesic domes amongst other forms of room. It gives the most wonderful glamping experience. Ms. Rumki and her husband are warm and accommodating people and ensures an overall immersive experience. We stayed there for 3 nights and came back wanting for more. It is literally on the top of the hill so you may want to also engage in short distance hikes as a part of the experience. It's 3 hours from Bagdogra and 4 hours from Darjeeling. Kalimpong is around 1.5 hours. Food is sumptuous and you may always request for your choice. Please remember, this will truly give you a feeling of disconnect with the world, with the breathtaking views and the starlit skies, which means it's also isolated and food options are limited outside the retreat. They have all basic amenities like geyser, electric kettle, pedestal fan ( not really required in winter), and a gorgeous gorgeous view! Did I say view?! ~ Ishani S

It was a great experience with Rocky Top Retreat. The service, food, behaviour, environment and hospitality are too good. We have booked the upper Domestay, named "Gapsap". The view was excellent from each and every room. And at night, the Kalimpong City looks too amazing from the Dome - Gapsap. (you can see it from other domes and room) Also, there are two doggos, and they are very friendly with each and every guest. I want to go to this place again for sure. This is so heart breaking to see such negative comments given below for this lovely property. I am a mountain lover and trust me, the kind of view you can experience there will be mind-blowing. The owner of this place are very jolly and a lovely couple who always go extra mile to make your stay memorable. Lady is a very good cook and you can ask her to prepare dish according to your wish. Try Katla Paturi and cup cake in desert is must. Their helpers are very supportive and helped us by carrying out luggage till our room. From Dome, you will get the best view but all room are good in their own way. Enjoy the view while having lunch and breakfast from their glasshouse dining room. This place is for pure lyadh khawa with some amazing view. While leaving this place even my driver said " Sir itna jagah north Bengal me ghuma par ye kuch alag hi tha". Last but not the least, try to be little friendly with that naughty dog, and he will make sure you have all the fun. There is a say " when a dog loves man, he is a good man".
